Supports to Organizations

LNS provides supports to community learning organizations to help them meet the literacy, essential skills and professional development requirements of their learners and practitioners.

PD FUND

Community learning organizations funded under the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning can apply for funding for their staff and volunteers. The PD Fund covers professional development activities for individuals and groups within the organization.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) REFRESH FUND FOR CLOS

As an essential component of literacy and essential skills building, adult learning programs must have greater capacities and updated IT resources. Community learning organizations funded under the Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning can apply for IT Refresh funding offered by LNS in partnership with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.

COMPUTERS FOR SCHOOLS

LNS was able to offer computer systems through Computers for Schools Nova Scotia. Computers for Schools collects, repairs, and refurbishes donated surplus computers from public and private sector sources. They are distributed to schools, public libraries, non-profit learning organizations, and Aboriginal communities. LNS provides licenses for Microsoft Office and Windows 10 for refurbished computers. Funding support is from LAE through the PGI grants.

LNS provides funding, practitioner training, and learner financial awards. We also produce resources, share information about literacy, promote accessible programs for all, and collaborate with others in order to support and celebrate learning.

28 Practitioners were funded to attend 16 PD opportunities.

7 Organizations funded for Assistive Technology grants to purchase 17 iPads.

26 Organizations requested and received 15 computers, 90 laptops, 14 monitors and 22 printers through Computers for Schools.
