About LNS

Literacy Nova Scotia (LNS) provides leadership to advance literacy by ensuring that all Nova Scotians have equal access to quality literacy, essential skills, and lifelong learning opportunities. LNS is governed by a board which represents labour, business, learners and six geographical regions of Nova Scotia.

LNS provides supports to learners, practitioners, and their organizations. Our membership includes 2 First Nation Groups; 3 Work Activity Groups; 3 Educational Institutions (NSCC, US-A, Frontier College); 26 Community-based Learning Organizations; and 118 individual supporters including practitioners and learners.

In 2014, the federal government cut funding to literacy coalitions across Canada. Since that time, the province of Nova Scotia has been a major funder contributing over 70% of revenue. The other funding support comes from donations, fundraising, membership and fee for service contracts. The NSPGI golf tournament is our biggest fundraiser.

Through partnerships and collaborations, fiscal management, and accessing our reserves, we are pleased to report on major accomplishments over the past year, April 1, 2017 – March 31, 2018.
