PRACTITIONER TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAM (PT)
The program consists of ten modules which ensure adult learners have access to well trained, certified practitioners who understand the adult learning process and can use appropriate teaching methodologies that address learning barriers. 14 practitioners were certified within the Practitioner Training and Certification Program.
PD CONFERENCE FOR PRACTITIONERS
Our two-day Fall PD Conference was held in November 2018 in Truro.
The theme was mental health. The program included a keynote, two plenaries and a panel discussion. Six sessions were delivered on topics including the effect of trauma and poverty on learning, teaching employability and math skills, and creating inclusive online courses and supportive learning and working environments.
Reviews of our PD Conference:
About Sue Smiley's Keynote:
"Sue provided an interesting and engaging keynote, and gave us a list of 10 strategies to help fight the stigma of mental health. The strategies are incredibly appreciated as was the honesty and straight talk. I will be more mindful of how we address the stigma of mental health and community supports. It will help me put accountability more on the student and academics balanced with empathy and understanding."
About the Panel Discussion:
" We had a great interactive session with opportunities for learning. I really appreciated the courage that the panel demonstrated in sharing their personal stories. Their experiences were helpful and practical for classroom use. I loved the participant engagement at the tables and using case studies. I left the session with good ideas I can pass along to our volunteer tutors."
About the Conference, overall:
"Another fabulous conference. Mental health and wellness is an important and timely topic. Your committee did an excellent job of organizing and presenting the conference. Thank you!"
