Supporting Adult Learners with Mental Health Issues Allison Parsons
Teaching and supporting adult learners with mental health issues has remained a challenge for literacy practitioners across Nova Scotia. Presently, the ramifications of Covid-19 on the adult learning environment further highlights the need for PD focused on mental health.
Whether diagnosed or undiagnosed, mental health disorders can severely impact an individual’s learning experience and career development. In this webinar, participants will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness, and the unique challenges and barriers it creates for learners. Methods for creating and delivering inclusive learning programs will be introduced, along with strategies for protecting and promoting the mental well-being of learners and literacy practitioners. Several online resources for supporting learners with mental health issues will be reviewed, followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.
Allison Parsons is the founder of WELLENACT Workplace Mental Health Training and is certified as a Psychological Health and Safety Advisor. As a graduate of Literacy Nova Scotia’s Practitioner Training and Certification Program, she understands the unique dynamics of the adult learning environment. Throughout her career, Allison has used her experience of living with a mental illness as a tool for supporting and educating others about mental health.
